Erika Raven is one of the most promising Belgian comic strips artists. Her albums of Thomas Rindt and Maywood Ripley are beautyful examples of Flemish story telling. |
|||
| For three years Erika Raven studied arts at the Art School and then she started working full-time making comic strips. In 1984 she started her career in the weekly magazin Kuifje (Tintin) with Lotus, her first Ripley-story. With Moessonregens (Mousson Rains), the first of two albums she created in the Thomas Rindt series, Erika won the Stripgids Prize in 1987. The stories of this series, which she created together with copywriter Marcel Rouffa, are characterised by an almost photographic realism in fascinating backgrounds with characters having a strong personality. Her non-conformistic style with a typical low-countries clair-obscur has got international potential. | |

As a very young comic strip artist, Erika Raven started publishing at the Belgian editor De Gulden Engel. Unfortunately, this editor stopped his activities in comic strip publishing in 1996. Erika then published another story at Casterman, a very dark strip called Spinrag (Spider Web). After this experience, she decided to publish her own work. The epical Zimbabwe, the thrilling Icebound, and a new series with the Maywood Ripley character - that appeared before in some short stories - are now owned and published by the Studio Raven. |

1997. This website was first
published by Jan Vanhellemont in 1997. At that time, Jan was in charge of Domino Benelux, a recruitment and
selection agency that organised a large recruitment project for the new Fnac store in
Wijnegem, Belgium. Erika Raven was hired as a saleswoman in the book department of this
store. After Erika left Fnac-Wijnegem, and Jan left Domino, the current homepage was
transferred to the Vanhellemont
family website, a nice place to be. |
